In anticipation of the last Harry Potter film -- which we won't see for another couple of weeks when the crowds die down -- we had a movie marathon this weekend. (Although we only made it through 2 movies so far.) There were wands -- handmade by Maddie -- and butterbeer...
Why yes, that is bourbon in the background. The grownups had their butterbeers spiked.
Did you see the latest HP movie this weekend? I have heard a few people around the internets saying it was really good!
This weekend we picked up two videos to watch, and while I was aware that Up in the Air
starred George Clooney, I had no idea that he was the voice of Mr. Fox in Fantastic Mr. Fox
until we started watching it. As it turns out, both movies were quite entertaining and very funny. Just what the doctor ordered!
Over the weekend we watched Revolutionary Road because we are cheap and lazy. Okay, perhaps that's a bit harsh. In fact, it was free on demand and we hadn't seen it yet.
As it turns out, Revolutionary Road was an excellent movie and very thought provoking. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it (but it's not a cheery movie, so if you are looking for something upbeat and light, look elsewhere.)
Then yesterday it was off to IKEA to find a cookbook tamer for the dining room. We ended up getting the Expedit in black-brown because it can be positioned horizontally and thus hopefully look more like a sideboard. And if we do eventually find a (real) sideboard we like, the Expedit can be moved into another room -- specifically the family room where we have 3 tables in the same finish (or colorway -- as the knitter in me wanted to type there.)
Paint was also purchased, so I expect to see some real progress on the dining room by the end of this week.
The past week has been very stressful (family issues I shall not discuss here, but rest assured, things do seem to be improving -- or my attitude toward them perhaps.) So all I really wanted to do this weekend was hang out with Pete and Maddie, go out to dinner at our favorite restaurant and rent Star Trek. I didn't hold out much hope for that last bit since I knew it just came out on DVD and would most likely be all rented out at the video store, but it was my lucky night! Pete fell asleep (probably thanks to the calming effects of the La Mex Margarita that he had with dinner :) but Maddie and I had a great time watching the movie together. Even if you aren't a Trekkie, it's difficult not to like this move. It was very well cast and super exciting. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Here's hoping this is a better week!
I'm sure you don't need me to tell you about Sita Sings the Blues. Heck, you've probably already watched it. It's amazing, wonderful and different from pretty much anything I've seen before. So If you haven't seen it yet -- check it out!
In the small world category -- turns out my husband knows Nina Paley's brother and had Cubs season tickets with him years ago. 6 degrees and all that.
Have you heard of Dr. Horrible? Looks weird and cool and fun and strange.
Speaking of weird, cool, fun & strange . . . finally saw Juno. I dug it. And the music was quite good.
Speaking of music. I'm way into the new Death Cab for Cutie -- Narrow Stairs -- which is totally cheap at Amazon, so you should really go buy it. If you like Smashing Pumpkins, Jane's Addiction, Built to Spill, et al. you will feel right at home with this CD. (Can I still call it that now that it's more accurately a grouping of mp3's?)
